The Adler Planetarium of Chicago is not just the first planetarium in the Western hemisphere and the oldest surviving one, but it’s among the more interesting ones as well. It’s a great place to start learning about space. You can find out all about the planets, their moons, the suns, galaxies, galaxy clusters, and the universe. You can know about asteroids, meteorites, black holes, quasars and other heavenly bodies. Space is huge. There is no end to what you can learn. Make a start at the Adler Planetarium.

Planet Explorers is the latest permanent exhibition here. It’s the right place to get started if you are a young family with kids. Children can get involved and have fun in their own space adventure. They learn to pilot a rocket, how to live in a space shuttle, and can also explore a mythical planet X. its hands-on fun and educational too.

Then there is also the “Shoot for the Moon”, where kids can follow the footsteps of astronaut Captain James A. Lovell, Jr. and learn about liquid-fuel rockets and how they work. Don’t miss the Gemini 12 spacecraft, which has orbited Earth for 14 days. You can see it up-close here. You can look at the Apollo moon-landing sites NASA images as well. They are all in high-resolution. And finally visit the Café Galileo at the planetarium to catch a fantastic view of Chicago’s skyline. You can get some gifts at the Adler Store as well.

One must visit at the planetarium is the Adler’s 3-D Universe Theater. Here’s what you get here.
