Travelodge Downtown Chicago
Whenever someone traveling on budget ask me for a budget friendly hotels in Chicago, I always end up recommending a few tried-and-true hotels downtown.
One of those places that people often overlook but always end up loving is the Travelodge by Wyndham Downtown Chicago.
This budget friendly hotel is one of those hidden gems, yes nothing too flashy, but right in the middle of everything you’d want to explore.
A Classic Chicago Hotel with a Familiar Feel
The first thing people notice when they check in is how close the hotel is to all the best places to stay in Chicago.
The location on South Wabash Avenue is very convenient as it is just a few steps from Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Hotel’s location makes it feel like you’re living right in the city’s heartbeat. It’s not one of those far-off suburban hotels where you spend half your time in commute or stuck in traffic. From this hotel everything feels walkable.
The vibe at Travelodge is relaxed simple but clean. The rooms aren’t over-the-top, but they’re comfortable, with cozy beds, good showers, and everything you really need for a city trip.
Hotel rooms include a mini-fridge and coffee maker, which is perfect when you just want to chill after a long day walking around downtown.
When I stayed there for a weekend with some friends from out of town, you can say it was my staycation. You could hear the city hum in the background, but it never felt noisy or chaotic inside.
I loved the “vintage Chicago” charm, I would say kind of a little bit nostalgic, a little bit cozy, and definitely convenient.
The Location Makes All the Difference
From this hotel, you can literally step outside the front door and walk to half of the best indoor attractions in Chicago for cold weather days.
Grant Park is right around the corner so you can take advantage of it for a morning walk or catching one of the summer festivals.
The Art Institute is less than a 5-minute stroll, and if you head east, you’ll hit Millennium Park and that famous Cloud Gate sculpture, better known as The Bean.
During our stay, we walked over to Lou Malnati’s on State Street for deep-dish pizza and ended the night with drinks by the Riverwalk. It was all within 10-15 minutes of the hotel.
Travelodge downtown Chicago hotel is perfect for anyone visiting without a car. It’s close to Roosevelt Station so the L train makes it easy to get to the airport, Chinatown, or the museum campus.

Budget-Friendly Hotel in Chicago Downtown
As we all know that hotels in downtown Chicago can get pricey, especially during the summer or big events like Lollapalooza or the Chicago Marathon.
That’s where the Travelodge help you save money as this hotel is one of the best budget-friendly hotels in downtown Chicago.
You get a comfortable place to stay with good service and of course convenient location without paying a lot of money on hotel rooms in Chicago.

The staff at the front desk were also really helpful they gave local restaurant recommendations and even suggested routes for walking to the Museum Campus.
It is budget friendly hotel with good customer service and that’s make a stay feel personal.

There are so many dining options available for carry out and dine in near Travelodge. There’s also few coffee shops nearby for your morning coffee fix.
When I stayed there, I loved grabbing my hot latte and then heading a few blocks to Buckingham Fountain to catch the sunrise.
It’s one of those small city experiences that feels special if you’re a local or even special for first time visitors in Chicago.
If you’re craving something a little more classic, Giordano’s Pizza, Buddy Guy’s Legends, and Elephant & Castle Pub are all within easy walking distance. You’ll never run out of places to eat.

For Business or Pleasure, It Works
Whether you’re in town for a quick business trip on budget or a weekend getaway on budget, the Travelodge hotel works well. There’s free Wi-Fi, a business center, and comfortable seating in the lobby where you can get work done if you need to.
But honestly, most people staying here are out exploring Chicago so I felt that this hotel is more inclined towards tourist than business travelers.
McCormick Place Convention Center is just a short drive or train ride away so if you are attending event at McCormick Place Convention Center and looking for a budget friendly hotel in downtown Chicago then Travelodge is perfect choice.
What I like most about Travelodge by Wyndham Downtown Chicago is how it feels rooted in the city. You’re surrounded by the architecture, energy, and rhythm that makes Chicago what it is. I
When I walk out the hotel doors immediately I see the CTA trains running above Wabash Street. Smell of coffee in the morning and of course the aroma of Garrett Popcorn in the air, and the sound of tourists and locals blending together.
That’s the Chicago I love and that’s what you experience and get staying here.
